-What Does the Bible Teach About Satan?

There is so much mythology surrounding Satan, especially his character and power. Between the fantasies of literature and modern movies, all sorts of misinformation has found its way into our culture.

Even Christians at times display some confusion about Satan and his demons. Particularly about what they actually can and cannot do.

Here is a needed article by Randy Alcorn on what the Bible actually teaches about Satan:

“What does the Bible teach about Satan?”

Alcorn makes 7 statements in his article, each backed up by scripture:

1.  Satan and angels are created beings; and, as such, are totally subservient to God and limited in all their powers compared with the Sovereign and Omnipotent Creator.

2.  Satan and his fallen angels (demons) are, however, powerful, crafty, intelligent, deceitful, and committed to (permanently sealed into) opposing God.

3.  Satan and the angels cannot read minds.

4.  Satan, demons, and fallen humans all know that God is real.

5.  Paul’s words in Romans 1 point out the primary way that Satan has opposed God.

6.  Satan considers himself successful in his opposing God.

7.  Satan is so delusional that, in his blinding hatred opposing God, he willingly fulfills God’s decree as it is plainly revealed and known by him.

In the end, Alcorn concludes that God sent his Son Jesus into the world to bring an end to Satan and evil:

God planned that his Son should deal the death blow to Satan, evil, and suffering, in order to reverse the Curse, redeem a fallen humanity, and repair a broken world.

A great article which provides a good Biblical basis for understanding Satan and his minions.            *Top

I would like to comment on the 3rd point you made. It says Satan and his angels can’t read minds. I agree with you there. I have come to believe since they have been around throughout human history they watch trends and go from there.
